About Me
Yvonne Lavelle
PG Dip CBT MBACP
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with a Postgraduate SCQF Level 11 qualification in CBT and Groupwork and over 10 years of experience in mental health, including previous work as a Hypnotherapist and NLP Coach. I am a Registered Member of the BACP and a trauma-informed Counsellor.
As a new wave CBT therapist, I combine evidence-based CBT tools with conscious Somatic Therapy techniques, such as breathwork and colour work, helping you to calm your nervous system, manage emotions, and challenge unhelpful patterns. My approach supports resilience, self-awareness, and lasting change in your mental and emotional wellbeing.
I offer a safe, compassionate space whereby we work collaboratively using tailored treatment plans to address your unique needs and goals.

SCQF Postgraduate Level 11 in CBT and Groupwork
A 2 year part-time course after a general counselling course. The whole process of seeing clients on a course like this with a Supervisor, enables you to know the training was a high standard. All Counsellors continue to have supervision after they qualify until they retire.
Mental Health Focus
Back to you…When life feels overwhelming or an uphill struggle, it can be every day or something triggers those feelings at times. It can show up in different ways. These are some of the areas I can support you with to transform your mental health:
What is CBT?
CBT is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
CBT, developed in the 1970s by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, is now one of the most researched and effective therapies worldwide. Recommended by the NHS and global health bodies, it’s a structured, evidence-based approach that helps you understand how thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behaviours are connected. By recognising unhelpful patterns and learning new coping strategies, CBT supports practical and lasting change.
I focus on the ‘here and now,’ helping you to see how past experiences shape your present day. Some sessions may explore and clear those past issues. CBT is practical and hands-on, offering tools and strategies for everyday life to build resilience and lasting change. It’s your session, and collaboratively, if structured CBT isn’t right for you that day, I’ll take a more person-centred, talking-therapy approach.
I offer a safe, compassionate space whereby we work collaboratively using tailored treatment plans to address your unique needs and goals.
What is Somatic Therapy?
“Somatic” means body-based. Somatic therapy recognises that psychological stress and trauma are not only stored in the mind but also in the body. Instead of focusing mainly on thoughts, it pays attention to bodily sensations, posture, breath, and tension.
I might guide you through grounding, breathing, movement, or awareness exercises to help you release stuck stress responses (like fight/flight/freeze). Or maybe to show you where that energy from past experiences is stuck in the body and I’ll talk you through releasing that slowly in the session. Sometimes, it’s just good to do this for ‘here and now’ emotions and to give you control over them. It also helps to regulate the nervous system. The two therapies of CBT and Somatic together complement each other and allow your mind to relax and problem-solve more efficiently.
Your Sessions Pricing
Book an Introductory Free Session of 15 minutes so we can talk about how I can help you. This is completed via telephone. Please ensure you have space to talk openly and privately.
Although CBT is structured, the number of sessions varies from person to person with what they bring to therapy. Most clients find that between 6 and 12-18 sessions of CBT provide significant progress. We’ll decide together what feels most helpful for you, and review progress regularly to ensure you’re getting the most from therapy. Sessions can be paced two-weekly instead of weekly, however, most clients benefit more from weekly, especially at the beginning.
